Our day begins as soon as our alarm goes off and we open our eyes. Often, our minds can instantly flood with thoughts about our day, reminding us of the obligations and tasks that are ahead of us. If we aren't careful, how we start our day can influence how we go about the rest of our day. If we don't fill our minds with the Truth first thing in the morning, we can often go through our day discouraged and frustrated. While I encourage you to take some time reading from God's Word today, here are four promises from Scripture to carry with you as you go about your day.
God will be with you.
The day ahead can feel daunting, and often, we can feel all alone in the things of our day. These feelings can make us feel lonely, anxious, and insecure. In Matthew 28:20, Jesus promises, "I am with you always, to the end of the age." You are not alone as you go about your day. Because of Christ, we have been given the Holy Spirit, whose presence dwells within us. No matter what you face today, you have the promise of God's near presence. There is not one part of your day where God's presence will leave you. He will never say to you, "you are on your own." God's presence remains close to you and will never depart from you. This also means that God is available and accessible. You can come to Him at any moment, talk with Him, and rely on Him. As you walk through your day, God walks with you. He will be with you through everything you experience, enveloping you with His powerful and peaceful presence.
God with work through your every moment.
We often make plans for our day and have our schedule all outlined, only to have our plans foiled. The babysitter cancels, your child wakes up sick, or you get in a fender bender on the way to work. Maybe you have already had one of these moments happen already today.
While these moments are frustrating and hard, we can be comforted knowing that God remains in control. Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many plans are in a person's heart, but the Lord's decree will prevail." Our setbacks and failed plans cannot thwart God's purposes. God will work through everything you experience today, even the hard and the difficult, to accomplish His perfect sovereign will. It is a great comfort to know that whatever happens today is not beyond God's control. Things may seem out of control to us, but they are not to God. He is not thrown off even when we are thrown off. If things don't go the way you planned today, you can have peace knowing that God is still accomplishing His plans and purposes and is working through the detours of your day.
God will work through your every weakness.
When we start our day, it can be overwhelming to think about all we need to do. We can often feel unprepared for the things of our day and unfit for what is expected of us. As we go through our day, we can be cheered in remembering that God is working through us. Philippians 2:13 says, "For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose." The things of your day don't depend on your power or perfection in order to be accomplished. It is God who works within you to accomplish His good purposes. It is His power that you depend on, not your own. Every weakness you may experience today will be met with the strength of the Lord. Even though you may feel weak, unfit, or unprepared, remember that Christ's power is displayed through your weaknesses. Jesus will give you His strength for your every weakness and will work through your weakness to display His power and glory.
God will give you His grace.
We may start our day ready and committed to walking in godliness only to find ourselves sinning instead. Getting into traffic on the way to work can give us road rage, or we can snap at our spouse or our child. It can feel defeating to desire Christlikeness but also struggle with sin. In these moments, we must remember the grace and forgiveness given to us through Christ. 1 John 1:9-10 tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Whatever sin you may commit today, you can confess to God and receive His forgiveness. We may be frustrated with our sinful nature, but God is gracious and kind to us, encouraging us to come to Him in repentance. While God's forgiveness is not a license to sin, you can be relieved in remembering that God will give you grace for every sin, struggle, or shortcoming. He is sanctifying you through everything you experience today, even in the moments you sin.
