A Day in the Life of a Full-Time Writer at The Daily Grace Co.
The towel warmer I got from Facebook Marketplace has got to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m up no later than 7:20 AM to prepare for a day in the office.
After a quick shower (cue the warm towel), it’s time for makeup. I usually only wear lipstick in the winter, so ’tis the season for a matte lip!
I hope to be downstairs by 8:00 for coffee (I decide the night before if I’ll be making a run to a nearby shop or if I’m making a pourover of my favorite blonde roast).
My commute to the office is about 30 minutes (minus a coffee stop). I use my driving time to listen to a podcast, my favorite playlist, or to call a friend.
By 9:00 I should be walking into the office to greet my coworkers. It’s so nice to walk into a room full of people who are kind and so happy to see you! The feeling is mutual.
If it’s a Monday morning, I check my email, organize my tasks for the week, respond to Slack messages, and then catch up with my friends until it’s time for our 10:30 team meeting. We meet as a whole team and then break up to meet with our individual departments. Shoutout to the content department!
After our team meeting comes lunch! It’s one of my favorite parts of the week! At around 11:45 on Mondays we eat together as a team—lots of meaningful conversations, laughter, and shenanigans ensue!
By 12:30 PM, we’ve dispersed to our desks for work. Depending on what’s on the agenda, I may be working on a Bible study entry or an entry for one of our Daily Grace handbooks. Or I might be writing a YouTube script or a blog—like I am right now!
Between 5:00 and 5:30, I’ll wrap up for the day, say goodbye to my coworkers, and take the stroll back to the parking garage.
On my drive home, it might be another phone call, playlist, or podcast. It’s likely that I’ll need to pick up a grocery order on the way, too!
By 8:00, I’ve finished eating dinner and watching TV with my sister, who lives with me. We’ll begin our ascent up the stairs—probably laughing and dancing and being generally unruly—but it’s our house, we make the rules!
By 9:00 I start getting ready for bed—yes, it takes us an hour to wind down! I LOVE doing my skincare routine, so that’s next! There’s something about finding a set of products that actually work—and I think I’ve finally found it! After that, I pick out my clothes for the next day.
Next, it’s time in the Word. Right now, I’m enjoying our Behold study, which goes through the New Testament in a year.
Depending on how the events above go, I hope to be asleep by 11:00 PM.
I’ve grown to love the life I’m living. It's full of joy, so much laughter, and so much grace. From Christ’s fullness, I’ve received grace in place of grace already given (John 1:16). I love my job and I often have to pinch myself when I remember that the Lord has allowed me to do something I love as my career. It’s something I prayed for for so long and I’m filled with gratitude for God’s kindness.
Of course, I have my struggles. Having my dream job means living twelve hours away from my family and seventeen hours away from my closest friends. The call of God is always worth so much more than we could ever give up, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be sad sometimes.
There are other things I wish I had that I don’t yet have—a family of my own, my own home, perpetual access to Kentucky sweet tea. Yet, I remain so incredibly blown away that this is my life.
I bet there are things you wish you had too. Maybe you’re dreaming about your own dream job or a place you’d like to travel to one day. It’s okay to have desires. But, as you take those desires to God, don’t forget to take inventory of your life. Find the things that just blow you away—the things you never saw coming. Then, thank Him.
