A Prayer for Our Leaders

Why Should We Pray for Our Leaders?

How do you feel about the leadership of our country? Did the recent presidential election cause you to feel anxious about the future of the U.S.? Excited? Indifferent?

When it comes to thinking about our leaders, many different emotions can come up. You may have strong opinions about our leadership, whether they be positive or negative. You may also feel apathetic or uninterested—maybe you try to ignore our leadership altogether.

We are called to pray for those in authority | TDGC

Regardless of the camp you fall into, Scripture makes a clear point that we are called to pray for those in authority of our country.

1 Timothy 2:1–4 says, First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

We have a clear calling to pray for anyone who holds power and authority. This includes our president, those in the House and the Senate, our local governing authorities, our pastors, and more!

To live out this Scripture, let’s pray for our leaders together today.

A Prayer For Those in Leadership

Lord, You are sovereign over all things.

Your plan is perfect and You bring all things together.

God, Your wisdom exceeds the wisdom of the world.

You are holy and righteous; allowing certain things for certain reasons.

Your ways are higher than our ways.

You have allowed our leaders to hold their positions,

His ways are higher than our ways | TDGC

As part of Your perfect will.

We pray for those in leadership.

We pray that they will turn to You as they lead.

Lord, guide them with their decisions.

Use them to bring You glory and as a vessel to bring others to You.

When their time to lead is over, transition them smoothly and peacefully from their position.

Bless their works and bring Your people together to bless You.

Amen.
