On today’s episode, we are taking a broad approach to spiritual gifts and discussing the issue of unhealthy comparison regarding our different gifts and abilities. Have you ever thought, “I wish I could teach the Bible like she does,” or “Why didn’t God give me a voice like that to lead worship?” or “Why doesn’t God give me a platform like her? I can do that so much better!” Envy, comparison, and pride can come up in so many different ways regarding our giftings. We know it’s not right, but we’re not sure how we can get to a place of genuinely celebrating other people’s gifts and abilities. Or maybe we’re in a place where we wonder where we fit in because we’re not quite sure what our spiritual gift is!
In this episode, we discuss what spiritual gifts are in a broad sense: they’re gifts from God for the common good! They are sovereignly given by God to each believer for the good of the body. When we understand God’s design and purpose for spiritual gifts, we are less likely to struggle with envy, pride, and unhealthy comparison. Instead, we will humbly seek to serve and love others by faithfully stewarding our gifts and encouraging others to do so as well. The body of Christ is made up of different people with different manifestations of the Spirit. The diversity of gifts and abilities within the church is something that unites and strengthens the body! We need each other!
