Responding to Deconstruction: Turning from Faith, Evaluating Convictions, and Everything In Between | Ep. 130

Episode 130

Deconstruction is a hot term right now. That’s because there are a lot of people in our culture today “deconstructing” their faith. But what does that even mean? For some people, this means turning away from Christianity entirely. That’s why the term “deconstruction” is often tied to deconversion stories. But for others, deconstruction means intentionally evaluating their beliefs to see what is true and what isn’t. Some of these people grew up in the church, and now as adults, they realize they simply accepted everything their parents told them about the Christian faith. In deconstructing, they’re wanting to uncover for themselves what is true or not. This isn’t bad. We should individually study and know God’s Word for ourselves. But there can be pitfalls that we should all be aware of!

In this episode, we consider how we should respond to this movement. We actually look at deconstruction from many different angles. First, we ask ourselves: is deconstruction a good thing or a bad thing? What exactly is it? If we find ourselves questioning some beliefs, how should we go about it? Or maybe we know other people who are wrestling with their beliefs. How can we support those in our vicinity who are questioning or even rejecting Christianity? Importantly, how does the Bible play into all of this?

Whether you are hearing this idea for the first time, you are deconstructing yourself, or anything in between, we hope you will join us in this conversation.
