What do the 10 commandments have to do with us today? Are they even relevant on this side of the cross? Today, we are joined by Jen Wilkin. Jen begins the conversation by helping us understand the purpose of the 10 commandments, and she explains how we should view “the law” today. Many of us readily accept the laws telling us to not murder or commit adultery, but we may not quite understand what it means when it says we should not “bear false witness” against our neighbor (which is the 9th commandment; see Exodus 20:16). Jen helps us see that this may be a besetting sin for many of us, and we may not even realize it! Bearing false witness is not just about spreading lies about our neighbor. It includes things like flattery, gossip, manipulation, slander, and more. In fact, it even goes beyond our speech!
