On today’s episode, we talk about bad days. We’ve all had them. Or maybe it’s a hard season, and we’re not sure when (if ever) things will let up. How do we deal with less than ideal circumstances? We don’t want to escape and pretend they’re not there (because they are!). We know that retail therapy and treating yourself are temporary coping mechanisms. Should we put a smile on our face, pull up our bootstraps, and power through? What does the Bible say?
Scripture teaches us how to respond to the brokenness around us. The Lord equips us to faithfully live in the midst of hard days and/or hard seasons. He gives us the gift of lamenting -- we can go to God in our pain and ask the hard questions: God, are you angry with me? Are Your promises really sure? Has Your love run out? Have you forgotten me? But in our lamenting, we remember the Lord -- His character and what He has done. We rehearse the truths found in Scripture; we preach the gospel to ourselves. We trust that He is working all things for His glory and our good. We can ask, “How is this bad day an opportunity for me to grow in godliness?” It’s not easy, but we’re not alone. He is with us through the good times and bad!
