A Prayer for Church Unity

How Can We Seek Unity?

In a culture that seems to feed off of discord and division, it can feel frustrating to find unity. Even looking at the Church can feel hopeless as doctrinal issues, sin, and denominational divides seem to grow. But we are called to be united in spirit and mind (1 Corinthians 1:10, Ephesians 4:1–6, Romans 12:1–5). As Christians, how are we supposed to navigate this?

God calls us to live as a unified body | TDGC

There are many things we can do to be peacemakers rather than sowers of division. But first and foremost, we must posture ourselves in submission to the Lord. God is the God of peace. He is the One who calls us to live as a unified body. The best thing you or I can do is intentionally pray for the Church to be in unity with one another. Let’s pray together now.

A Prayer for Church Unity

Lord,

We look at the world and are overwhelmed with feelings of hopelessness.

People who are meant to stand side by side in peace,

now form lines with weapons drawn.

Our heads may reel with confusion and our hearts are filled with tension.

We must posture ourselves in submission to God | TDGC

How did we get this far from Your perfect plan?

Why do we let earthly things get between us?

Forgive us of our bitter hearts

that often care too much about being right.

We repent for contributing to division

rather than living to love and serve others.

Your Word says that through the blood of Christ

we do not live as strangers,

but as brothers and sisters.

Whatever we believe about politics, culture, and denominations,

we are called to be unified under Your banner.

Open the eyes of Your Church, God.

The best thing we can do is pray for the Church | TDGC

Give us hearts that desire to bring peace, not division.

Bring your Church together as one body.

Remind us of what You have done, and that because of Your sacrifice,

we are called to live in peace.

Soften our hearts to love one another as family,

just as You first loved us.

Amen.
