He's Got This

Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

Jeremiah 32:17

No matter how frequently (or infrequently) I fly, each time I step onboard, walk down the cramped aisle, sit down and buckle the belt that is supposed to save me in the event of a crash, I have the reoccurring thought–there's something purely magical, even spiritual, about flying. Although some may argue that it's not really magical or spiritual, I choose to be in awe of His artistry. Yes, I can study a basic diagram of aerodynamics illustrating lift, weight, thrust, and drag–the how and why flight is possible. I know I could understand it. But that's just it–I don't want to. I much prefer, in my 9 x 12 inch view of the world through the plane's window, to look in awe at the clouds as the plane glides above, below, and most intriguingly among them. And with the slightest tilt of my head, I can see the illuminating sun peaking just above them. I'll take that.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains–where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1-2

I want my faith to mirror that too. While I read and study God's word, the Scripture tells me of God's awesome power in His creation. I prefer to appreciate and believe without a doubt in what is. I know because of God's design of nature and the gifts He bestowed to man that a plane can fly. As my eyes look out and my gaze turns out of the plane's window, whether my view below is of snow-capped mountains, colorful deserts, gleaming lakes, winding rivers, long stretching beaches, deep oceans, parcels of farmland, and even man's complex highways, I know His hand created all I can and can't see. Each time as the view rushes toward me and the plane's wheels eventually touch the runway, I thank God both for the safe travel and for the experience. For through it, I am reminded that He was and is in total control, and He always will be.

Many embrace the Word and believe that God is capable and created all things and makes all things possible. How then can we deny His ability to take care of us and lift our burdens? We too often face the daily pressures in life and feel defeated and alone. It is easy to fall into the trap of believing we can take care of our own problems and worry over matters without asking–and trusting–that He's "got this." However, regardless of the severity of difficulties, disappointments, and trials that we face, we have to embrace that the God of all creation will be faithful to carry us through. Nothing is too great for Him.

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
