Read the New Testament in a Year

Have you always wanted to read the Bible in a year but felt intimidated by the idea? Reading the Bible cover to cover can feel like a daunting task. But there is so much you can learn by reading the Bible from start to finish in a year. Doing so allows you to walk through the narrative of Scripture and witness God’s unfolding plan of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration. Ultimately, you are able to see how all of God’s Word points to Jesus Christ.

While reading the Bible cover to cover is certainly helpful and insightful, you do not have to only read the Bible this way in order to experience fruitful Bible study throughout the year. If you do not feel ready yet to read the Bible cover to cover or want a different way to be in God’s Word year-round, you can walk through the New Testament in a year. Doing so allows you to go slowly throughout the New Testament and really meditate on Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection. And you are able to spend extended time dwelling on what the New Testament teaches you about how to live in light of Christ’s death and resurrection. Studying the New Testament allows us to soak up the beauty of the gospel and learn how Christ transforms our entire lives.

There are many ways in which you can read the New Testament in a year. So if you are curious about how to do so, consider the following tips.

Tips for Reading the Bible in a Year

1. Make a plan

Consider how to create and stick to a Bible reading plan that works for you and your routine. Maybe you could take some time to break down the New Testament in chunks, writing out in a journal how many passages of the New Testament you want to read a day. You could create a calendar for yourself or write passages out on an existing calendar. This allows you to see your daily reading and be reminded to be in God’s Word that day. Doing so also encourages you to stay on top of your reading and mark your progress over time.

2. Find a study

If you want to read a study in addition to your daily Scripture readings, find a study that allows you to walk through the New Testament. While you could certainly read multiple studies on certain New Testament books of the Bible throughout the year, there is a great benefit to having one study that breaks down reading the New Testament in a year. If that is your desire, you are in luck, because we have created our own study on the New Testament called Behold! This four volume study enables you to read one chapter of the New Testament a day, enabling you to walk through the entire New Testament over the course of a year. The content for each study is both rich and accessible and is on the shorter side to allow you to digest what you have read intentionally and slowly. This study will increase your knowledge of the New Testament as well as help you daily behold the beauty of Jesus Christ.

3. Find an accountability partner

Reading the New Testament in a year is a fun and engaging challenge. But this challenge can be hard sometimes. It can be easy to get behind or to throw in the towel when reading feels tough. Therefore, it is helpful to have encouragement and accountability along the way. So as you take up the challenge of reading the New Testament in a year, find and rely on accountability. Choose someone to do a reading plan along with you or meet with someone to go through the Behold study together. You could even form a small group of people at your church to do the study with! Or perhaps you can ask a friend or family member to check in on you and encourage you as you read.

At The Daily Grace Co.®, we wanted to create something that would help give you natural accountability as you read the New Testament in a year.
