What are Your Idols? | Ep. 16

What are Your Idols? | Ep. 16

Episode 16

On today’s episode, we build off of last week’s conversation on worship by discussing idolatry. Idolatry is a worship problem because idolatry is misplaced worship. Idolatry is not just worshipping a golden calf on a physical shrine. If we value, honor, and treasure anything or anyone more than God, we have an idolatry problem. Sometimes, idols are hard to identify because they are good things -- they are good things that have become ultimate things that capture our hearts; affections. So ask yourself: what do I value, honor, and treasure? What consumes my time, energy, and thoughts? If this (whatever it may be) is taken away or doesn’t pan out the way I envisioned, will I be devastated? When we do this, we may be tempted to be feel hopeless, but there is a practical remedy for our idolatry problem. We can replace the idols in our hearts by being consumed by a greater affection -- Jesus. We hope this conversation is helpful and encourages you on your journey to glorify God.
