5 Midnight Meditations for Motherhood
Motherhood is a journey, a delight, and a challenge all the same. Some days we may feel like we can do it all, and other days we fall flat on our faces. It's a great privilege and a great responsibility, but we are remiss if we think we can do motherhood on our own. While pouring so much of ourselves out in service to our homes and families each day, we must not neglect filling ourselves up with God's Word. It is the help and strength we need every day, and we simply can't neglect it. Finding time to meditate on the Scriptures can prove challenging, but carving out the space in our days for it is of utmost importance.
May these midnight meditations provide a thoughtful and encouraging close to your day, and leave the truths about God as the last lingering thoughts in our minds and the first thing we remember in the mornings.
- God's strength is sufficient in our weaknesses.
"But he said to me,"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness." Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
– 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
In what ways did you witness sufficient strength in Jesus Christ displayed through your weakness today? What does it look like to live in light of His sufficiency?
- We can rest in God's ultimate provision and care.
"Therefore I tell you: Don't worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Consider the birds of the sky: They don't sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they? Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don't labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that's how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won't he do much more for you ‚Äã– ‚Äãyou of little faith? So don't worry, saying, 'What will we eat? ' or 'What will we drink? ' or 'What will we wear? ' For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
– Matthew 6:25-34
Consider all the ways God has provided and cared for you and your family today. Praise and thank Him for the big and small things!
- God is at work in the mundane, bringing fruit to our ordinary faithfulness.
"Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't give up."
– Galatians 6:9
How have you seen God's faithfulness in the small things of your life over time? How can you remember His faithfulness today?
- God's grace abounds.
"And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work."
– 2 Corinthians 9:8
In what ways did you experience the grace of God today? How can you offer yourself and your family grace tomorrow as an overflow of the grace you receive from God?
- Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
"Though the mountains move and the hills shake, my love will not be removed from you and my covenant of peace will not be shaken," says your compassionate Lord." – Isaiah 54:10
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 8:38-39
What comfort do you find in the unending love of God? How does this truth encourage you in this season of motherhood?
