Gospel Hope for Shame with Kristyn Perez | Ep. 26
On today’s episode, we are joined by Kristyn Perez, a fellow co-laborer on the Daily Grace Co. team, and we dive into the heavy topic of shame. Kristyn is wife to Ronald and mama to two sweet girls. She also has a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Southeastern Seminary, and she is currently pursuing her certification from the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. Kristyn enriches our conversation on this topic of shame. Shame affects all of us -- because of the fall, we all experience it. The thing is, we all handle shame differently. Some of us pour ourselves into our work or we strive to be perfect. Others cope with our deep feelings of shame in other ways, like exercise. Many of us are soul tired because we’re endlessly striving to combat our shame or we’ve been covering things up in order to hide our shame for so long. But Kristyn reminds us that there is a solution to our shame, and it is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus is able to destroy our shame because He bore our shame on the cross. He offers wholeness in a place where our strivings can cease. And Kristyn reminds us that once we identify this theme of shame in the Bible, we will see it everywhere. God isn’t surprised with our shame. The beauty of the redemptive story of Scripture is that God provides the solution to our shame in the person and work of Christ!
In this episode, Kristyn also takes the time to distinguish the important differences between guilt, regret, and shame. She also offers us practical ways we can face our shame if we feel hopelessly defined by our shame. If you don’t wrestle with shame, she offers helpful ways you can help others that are struggling with it. In the end, we pray this conversation reminds you that there is gospel hope for your shame. You are not alone.
