Praying Scripture | Ep. 55
On today’s episode, we are talking about praying Scripture. Prayer is an essential part of our faith walk. It’s a way we can experience intimacy with God. Yes, it’s how we bring our needs and desires to the throne of God, but it’s also where our wills are molded to His will. How amazing! But if we’re honest, many of us struggle to pray. We find ourselves praying sporadically throughout the day, and our prayers lack depth. There are many reasons for this, but one reason may be because we don’t have the words to pray. It feels like a struggle. The desire isn’t there. So what can we do?
Praying Scripture is a helpful framework that can deepen our prayer lives. It can keep our prayers from being self-centered; it can help us understand and apply Scripture; it can help us pray when we don’t have the desire to pray. Though prayer is personal, we are not confined to using our own words. We are invited to pray the words God has given us back to Him! But what passages can we use? Does genre matter? Should we pick random verses to pray? How do we apply our specific circumstances to our prayers? Joanna and Stefanie answer these questions and also provide a few different examples of how you can pray Scripture.
