“You Do You”, Shame, and Repentance with Maggie Combs | Ep. 90
On today’s episode, we are joined by Maggie Combs. Maggie’s latest book, Motherhood Without All the Rules, inspects the different systems of standards that our society imposes on moms (and women!) who want to be good moms (or good people). These standards include things like “everything depends on you” and “you need an escape” and “be more than just a mom”. The stressful standard that we explore together on this episode is “you do you”. Have you ever heard that phrase? It sounds nice and freeing on the surface, but what if you struggle with shame? Are you forever stuck in your shame because you have to “do you”? What really is the solution to the shame and failures we all face? As the tagline of her book states, Maggie encourages us to “trade stressful standards for gospel truths”. The answer isn’t “you do you”; it’s repentance and finding true forgiveness in the person and work of Christ. Maggie graciously walks us through how we can practically (and daily!) practice repentance and find true freedom in the complete forgiveness we are offered in Jesus.
